Emacs

GNU Emacs is a highly customizable, extensible text editor initially released in 1985 and a testament to its utility, is still in wide use today. Its many uses include editing and debugging code, reading mail and news, and authoring documents. In addition, GNU Emacs features a fully fledged package manager, Unicode support, and thorough documentation, with tutorials for new users.
